Write About Your Life

Learn how to translate your experiences (the places you’ve been, people you’ve known, stories handed down, family histories, objects and events that matter to you) into language a reader can easily understand.  Bring them vividly to life in short stories, narrative essays, poems, plays, performance pieces, songs–you choose the form.

In addition to appearing in various literary magazines, Laynie Tzena’s work has received several honors, including an Avery Hopwood award for poetry, a Cranbrook Writers Guild scholarship for fiction, and a Creative Artist grant from the Michigan Council for the Arts.  Her column about the old Seventh Street post office, “A Scavenger Hunt in My Own Life,” won the grand prize in the San Francisco Column competition.  She has also been featured at the Marsh Cafe, the Austin International Poetry Festival, and on Michigan Public Radio.
